About Takehome Wealth
Takehome Wealth is a set of free calculators and guides for UK pay, tax and retirement. This page says who runs it, how the figures are worked out and checked, and how to tell us about a mistake.
Who runs it
Takehome Wealth is run by Fractal Opus Ltd, company number 14040875, registered in England and Wales. You can reach us at support@takehomewealth.com.
How the figures are worked out
The calculators share one tax engine, written for this site. It counts money in whole pence and rounds where HMRC's rules say to, so pay and tax come out exact to the penny, not roughly right.
Every tax rate, allowance and threshold comes from GOV.UK, or from the Scottish Government for Scottish income tax, and each is stored with the address of the page it came from. Investment growth and inflation are assumptions you can change. How we calculate explains the rules and the assumptions, and lists the sources.
How they are tested
- A second, separate model of income tax, National Insurance, student loans and the High Income Child Benefit Charge. Its rates were typed in from GOV.UK and it shares no code with the engine, so a mistake in one shows up as a disagreement with the other. The two must agree to the penny.
- Tests at and around every income tax, National Insurance and student loan threshold, in every tax year the site covers, for England and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Further tests run each National Insurance category and student loan plan in every year, and each kind of tax code and pension method in the current and previous tax years.
- A cross-check against another public calculator, Listen to Taxman. Its tax-free allowance is £9 higher than ours because it follows the PAYE tables. The test allows for that difference and nothing else.
- Worked examples from our written specification of the rules, which the engine must reproduce: pay and tax to the penny, and long-run retirement projections to within a few pence.
These tests check the arithmetic and the rules as written. They cannot predict future markets or changes to the law.
How changes are reviewed
Every change to a page, a figure or the engine is checked by a separate review and approved by the person who runs the site before it goes live, and every test must pass. When a new tax year starts, the new rates are checked against GOV.UK before the calculators use them.

If you spot a mistake
Email support@takehomewealth.com with the page address and what looks wrong. A calculator's address carries the figures you typed, so sending it shows us exactly what you saw. We will check it against the rules and correct anything that is wrong.
Not financial advice
The calculators and guides give calculations and general information, not personal financial advice. Results are estimates based on the figures you enter. Retirement projections are illustrations, not forecasts.
Financial advisers
Takehome Wealth may introduce visitors to regulated financial advisers. That happens only if you request a call, confirm your phone number and give permission for your request to be shared with a firm named on the form. Using a calculator or reading a guide never contacts an adviser. The site does not currently offer introductions. Before sharing personal information with any adviser, check the firm on the FCA register. Privacy and storage explains what we keep.
